Soul Calibur V

Soul Calibur V when I put this game in my rental on Gamefly I was hyped thinking yeah I loved the previous so I know I will enjoy this one. Boy I was wrong….. The game is the normal game with some added specials which is ok. What is NOT OK is taking all the best players out of the game. Almost all of the characters are new save a few. My favorite Talim was removed and didn’t even get a replacement like the other players did. Most the new characters though are almost exact copies just different names and a few changes on looks and tweaks on fighting style other than that it’s the same. Decent graphics, Same fighting style, same Arcade mode, all these are ok but removing some of the best characters from the series was just a poor move in the direction for this game so I recommend renting this one to see if you can handle the changes from the previous version. Oh I forgot to mention that you can create your own character in this one which is done better than the previous version because your look no longer has an effect on your stats which is a good thing because to get the best stats in previous version your character had to just look horrible.

I give Soul Calibur 5 a 6/10. Losing the old characters and replacing them with look alikes and some not even getting a replacement just ruined this one for me.

Dragon Ball Z: Ultimate Tenkaichi

Dragon Ball Z: Ultimate Tenkaichi I saw this game and thought that this would be an Epic game. I mean you can finally create your own Dragon Ball Z character….. Man was I wrong. The customization was horrible there are 3 body types and you would think that each one would be built with their own specialties but well this is where it was done horribly wrong. Normally the Heavy built characters hit harder in every fighter but are slower and the light characters are fast but hit weaker. Well they got part of it right Heavy hits harder and have more hp and light characters are weaker and less hp but they did not reduce the speed of the heavy characters or if they did it is hardly noticable. I built a light character because I wanted the speed and instead just realized by doing that I nerfed myself. Graphics are on par with the other games so nothing new here to comment on but the battle system has been ruined now too. I feel they took a step backwards in the game. They used to have a button that activated your ki blast which was a small energy beam now you can only activate that when you are at a distance and by pressing the normal attack. To enter the Ki blast range you have to be at a distance by knocking the enemy back using a chain attack and this is where it gets worse -.-;. Chain attacks are basically a 50/50 guess on whether it will go through or not. It is as simple as picking left or right or by choosing triangle or square. If the defender picks the same button as the attacker than the attack doesn’t go through and gets countered. I recommend that if you feel you have to play this game only rent it. If you buy it you will regret it.

This game has too many faults so I give it a 5/10.

Tales of the Abyss – 3DS

Tales of the Abyss is a RPG for the 3DS made my Namco Bandai. It is a remake from the game on PS2. You take the role of Luke who is teleported out from his home due to a unforseen event. The graphics for this game are really good but more often than not you do not want to use the 3d function because it is more eye strain than you want for not much benefit. Along with Luke you will control 5 other players. The storyline of this game was actually confusing to follow in the beginning / middle of the game as for the end I am not sure as I rented this game and did not finish it before I returned it. The battle system of the game you control 4 players in an action battle system but the battle system leaves a desire for more control as you can only move left and right and it makes it hard to dodge attacks and not up and down. You have 2 types of attack regular attacks which you can combo about 3 of and also use a few special attacks which you set to B, Up+B, Down+B and Left+B you also can set 4 skills from all your characters you plan on using in the fight to the touch screen to use when you wish but this still leaves me wanting to be able to use all my skills + magic in the game.

I give Tales of the Abyss for the 3DS 7/10.

Kirby’s Return to Dreamland

This is my review of Kirby’s Return to Dreamland for the Nintendo Wii that came out on October 25th of this year.

Now most games lately I have not been able to play from start to finish due to the fact that I just end up getting bored with the repetitiveness of the games lately. But me and my fiance have been playing this Kirby every night and are at the end of it now. The game is great to play alone but 10x more fun to play with friends and the game even rewards you for teamwork by putting in co-op attacks and abilities. When playing solo you can only play as the pink Kirby. But when you add in friends or family to the game they can play as Meta Knight, King Dedede, Waddledee, and of course Kirby. You can have up to 4 Kirby’s at once which is quite fun. Kirby return to Dreamland only has 1 major flaw and that is it looks extremely childish so most people will end up passing this gem up if they haven’t played previous Kirby games. This kirby also features Mega skills which last for a limited time, one of which is the Mega Sword. The Mega Sword Kirby is kirby that runs around with a larger than normal sword but when he attacks the sword becomes a huge weapon that takes up the full screen and destroys everything with 1 shot (besides the stuff that can’t be broken).

This games negatives no way influence my rating of this game 10/10. Great game, Great family/friend fun.

Atlantica Online

Well been awhile hasn’t it? Sorry I haven’t updated since August just haven’t been in the mood to blog.

This review is about Atlantica online a game owned by Nexon. This game is a Turn Based RPG with a bit of Strategy to it. You in the beginning control yourself and 1 other character but as you level up you can have up to 8 other mercenaries fighting alongside your main character. Your main character can be 1/8 classes at the start of the game (Sword, Spear, Axe, Gun, Bow, Cannon, Staff and Instrument). As you level up to 100 the 9th class is unlocked which is a chainsaw based class. This is a simple game like most other MMO’s you do quests for npc’s and fight monsters. The battle system is simple but not so simple it’s boring. You and your opponents take turns beating each other up using either your regular attack or the spells that class has. At level 5 you only have the choice of 6 mercenaries but as you level up and do your quests you can unlock new mercenary classes that have better stats than the lower level mercenaries. Battles may get a lil bit repetitive but it changes up by having a variety of monsters that are based off of the weapons of mercenaries that you can get. For the gamers who prefer to play by themselves but still like to be able to get help once in a while this game will definitely catch your eye as most things can be handled by yourself.

There are very few things I dislike about this game (like how squishy the light armor classes are) but one of the major things I like about this game is the Cash Shop influences very little in this game and yet if you wanted to you can use the Cash Shop to give yourself somewhat of a boost. All in all this game gets an 8/10.

Perfect World International

This is my first MMORPG review for those of you who don’t know what MMORPG stands for it means Massively Multiplayer Online Role Playing Game.

This game is great for customization when it comes to your characters there are many different things you can adjust on your character like none other. This game used to have a major grind to it but now if you can invest even 20 bucks in the game you can level to endgame within 2 weeks. For those who like to grind there is plenty of it, if you don’t wanna boost your level fast you can take your time and do quests and stuff but they get repetitive.

To me the Major problem with this game is that if you can afford to invest money in this game you can get a massive advantage over players who don’t cash shop. The only way to compete with cash shoppers is to run a shop 24/7, and you also have to be able to play the items the right way to make any money. This game I still play only because I invested a lot of time and money into the game plus my Fiance still plays this game. (btw her and I met in this game and fell in love while playing this game so there is tons of sentimental value.) If they would add more dungeons to this game it would be a lot more enjoyable but as it sits there are too many bugs and glitches for new players to enjoy.

Also there was a tournament recently to compete to see who was the best Perfect World Version. Perfect World Entertainment took this tournament very lightly at first and basically set their teams up literally last minute so the people who were gonna compete in the International version were decided who could kill a Boss fastest and even screwed up one of the Servers (Dreamweaver) by spawning an Increased health boss (when none were supposed to have any upgraded stats).

One of the redeeming values is the multiple classes they have (2 of which are gender locked) but 2 classes rule over all the others in instances especially if the owner of the account can cash shop majorly. Those 2 classes are the Assassins and the Blade Masters. They have the power to attack at 5 attacks a second and destroy practically any instance solo, But even though Blade Masters are in the top of the classes Assassins destroy them even. Assassins daggers can out damage any other class and have so many survivability skills so there is nothing to do to compete with Assassins. Almost everyone is making Assassins now for farming purposes and abandoning their magic classes. So I give this game a 5/10.

Super Smash Brothers Brawl

Yep another oldie. Super Smash Brothers Brawl is a fighter for the Wii and you well smash the heck outta each other. The point of the game is to send them flying off screen before they send you flying with an array of attacks featuring several different characters like Mario, Luigi, Princess Peach, Donkey Kong, Link, Zelda, Samus, Pikachu, Ike (from Fire Emblem), Solid Snake, Sonic and tons of others too. Each character has a finisher move that you use by obtaining an item called the Smash Ball it flies around the screen you break it and get an ultimate attack that is one time use then it goes away till you get another Smash Ball. There is a large array of items to use in this game ranging from light sabers and bats to koopa shells and Pokemon balls. The controls are extremely easy to get used to and the characters are easy to control. The graphics for the game are great and they especially shine when you use your smash attack. This game gets a 9/10 from me only because instead of including all the characters from the last game they just reskinned a few of them into different characters.

Legend of Zelda Ocarina of Time 3DS

This game is epic. I played it and loved for the N64, the Gamecube, and now the Nintendo 3DS. The graphics for this game have definitely improved. The controls are easy and they added in a new motion sensor control for using the bow, the hookshot, first person view, and the slingshot and it works nicely. Tons of tools to use and quite a few dungeons and an epic soundtrack ring true in this game. This game honestly don’t need much explaining to it. The top screen of the 3DS is used for the actual movement and fighting and the bottom screen is used for viewing your health and items/equipment and the map. The game is straight forward and easy to figure out where to head to next. Has a few side quests along with mini-games to keep you entertained. There is one annoying feature in this game and everyone knows her, and that would be Navi the fairy. She is constantly talking to you trying to get your attention throughout the game like a 3 y/o child who is being ignored. Some of her lines include “Hey, listen!” and “Look!” but other then her there is nothing negative about this game. 10/10

Tom Clancy’s Splinter Cell 3D

Tom Clancy’s Splinter Cell 3D…. ok where to begin with this train wreck….Well this game is for the 3DS and well, This game is a stealth shooter like Metal Gear 4 but nothing about it comes close to Metal Gear. You use stealth and the light meter makes you easier/harder to see and well… half the time the enemies can see you even if your completely in the dark. Most shooters if you shoot someone in the head they die right? Well in this game head shots almost NEVER work. Oh and I forgot to mention that this game is a remake of Splinter Cell Chaos Theory for the Xbox 360. Well… I honestly can’t think of much I like about this game I hate the controls for the game. The camera is really horrible too the tool to peak under the door you stick a camera under it and well the camera is controlled by the 3DS motion control but it fails horribly and can never see any enemies when you peak under the door. The graphics for this game aren’t even good either they look almost exactly like the previous version. This game gets a 3/10 from me.

Metal Gear 4

Ok… I know what your thinking. Your thinking that this game has been out for a very long time and yes it has but… I want to review it anyways so =p. Metal Gear Solid is a stealth shooter game for the ps3. A stealth shooter is basically a shooter but the major priority is stealth and not getting caught as it will lead to you basically dying or coming close to it.

Metal Gear 4 is great there is no shooter in my own opinion that can even compare to it. You play the character Old Snake whose job it is to stop a nuclear missle crisis. The stealth part of this game takes a major priority compared to most others, and it is done very well enemies can hear your foot steps see your foot prints in snow and even can hear some electronic devices you use. There are chapters to this game not too many but its nice to get into the story. The storyline if you don’t like it can be skipped and there is a lot of it. As snake you can use SEVERAL different guns and weapons and also Close Quarters Combat (or CQC as it’s called in the game.) To dispatch your opponents. There is more to the game though then just the story line there is also an online mode called Metal Gear Online. The problem I found with the online is most players like to use the expansion maps or rules which means you will most likely if you want to take it online need to pay for the expansion. Another issue I have with the online is it tends to lag at times but even then it doesn’t ruin the experience for me. I give Metal Gear 4/Metal Gear Online a 10/10.
